Speech Babbles
This small post covers work on this game between 11/18 and 11/23, or ‘The Dawn of the Speech Babble Era”, as it is known in the mclepke history books.
Last post covered adding the gradual typing of text to our textboxes. This time we’re taking the next step forward and adding a sound effect that will play as the text types onto the screen. Check out the end result! You need your audio on!
The sound effect playing here during the exams would more likely be a character’s voice in the actual game. E.g., if Rob is talking to someone and he says a line this babble might be what Rob’s voice sounds like. Here I used it for the exam just because I’m testing the overall system.
The little audio effect that is playing during the text typing is a clip of me talking that was cut into a small piece and looped. The general technique and idea for this style of textbox babble comes from Toby Fox’s Undertale, which featured character voices that sound like the one I’ve produced here. There’s a rumor out there that one of Toby’s character voices is a sample of Patrick from SpongeBob Squarepants that is cut and looped just like this.
That’s it for today - just a quick post. Have a great day!
