Baby Steps to #8

Baby Steps to #8

What’s up everyone! What’s new? Thanks for stopping by and wondering what I’m up to. Let me get you up to speed with the latest.

Last post I talked about my new Twitch stream strategy - essentially streaming less often and practicing offline more in an attempt to make my streams less numerous, but more exciting. Last post culminated with me reaching #9 on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV leaderboards - probably my proudest speedrunning achievement to date.

Jumping up to #9 was done on May 30. So, as my new strategy dictates, I then practiced offline without streaming from June 1 - June 17, and came back to stream on June 18. Once back, I was able to put a fresh personal best time on the board:

While a pretty significant personal best time in terms of time savings, the way the runs fall on the board I only moved up a single spot to #8 with this.

Here you can see the recent PB progression as shown on the leaderboards:

The 25:57 is the run that was #18, and the 21:11 is what was #9

Focus is a Super Power

If there is a mantra I have maintained during these past couple months of pushing myself to a new speedrun level, it’s that focus is a superpower. Once I went from speedrunning four games to one, I got radically better. Once I went from alternating days between game dev and speedrunning, I got radically better again.

This is all great, although I’m not sure what it means for my work schedule. I can feel the benefit of staying on one task until it is done. This doesn’t just apply to speedrunning, it also applies to game dev. After moving to #18 in Ninja Turtles, I spent a few focused days making the first draft of the video that will play when you select New Game.

It’s not a finished product (and I think this will seem much cooler once there’s a musical track that can play behind it), but I can feel myself getting closer to having a completed prologue people can play. This intro movie is depicting the main character having a dream interrupted by hearing knocking on the door. After the last knock animation in the video below, the main character will wake up and the game will start.

So….I am working on stuff, but a specific schedule still eludes me. I’m busy though so stay tuned!

Thanks for reading, have a great day <3
