Still on the move - last spotted at #6

Hello friends! It is I, Robbie. Let’s catch up shall we?

First things first, I’m up to #6. Check it:

As my burgeoning womanhood will now be a feature of the blog, I also had a very femme outfit for the PB shown above. Observe!

Speaking of burgeoning womanhood, pool season is in full effect. If y’all know me, you know that I love the public pool. This is my first year going two-piece at the pool. Here’s me and Erika on a recent trip.

I really should have kept track of how many times I’ve gone to the pool this summer in total. The pools opened on June 15 though and I can very safely say I’ve been more than 10 times. Pool season!

Deadlines

I have set up August 11 to be the final day that I will speedrun Turtles in Time. On August 11, Erika and I are going on vacation for a week, which contributes to the delineation of this time period I’m currently in.

I set up this plan on July 6. That left a runway of 36 days to see how far I can take this Ninja Turtles project.

I can feel that setting up this time frame is a smart thing for me to do. In the time since doing that, I’ve moved from #7 -> #5 on the leaderboards, after flatlining for a few weeks. Speedrunning is about your best run. Your best run is the only one that will ever be watched once it’s no longer live. This is a process of getting hot and getting that one run. This time frame setting feels conducive to that.

Why? I think my experiences speedrunning DKC2 in the 2018-2021 sort of time frame influences my thinking. I didn’t get continually better from 2018-2021. I had periods of getting really good and being warmed up and ready to go in that game, followed by periods of non-activity and skill loss. It’s true that whenever I returned to the game I got better, but once you have the engine going, that’s when you will improve your time. There isn’t a single PB that I ever had in DKC2 where after the PB, I expected that THIS would be my final PB. But, year after year, one of those PBs would be my final one for a year or more. My PB is almost 4 years old at this point.

I might be rambling by now, but I think what I’m saying is that you’ve got to strike while the iron is hot. The time is now, so until Erika and I go on vacation on August 11, I am going to try as hard as I possibly can at Ninja Turtles. Let’s do this.
